Why a slide deck is a bad study guide on its own
Lecture slides are written to be talked over. The bullet points are prompts for the lecturer, so the explanations, the connections between ideas, and the “this will be on the exam” moments live in the speaker notes or in your memory of the lecture, not on the slide.
A study guide fixes that by filling in the gaps: it restates each section in full sentences, pulls out the terms you will be asked to define, and turns the material into questions. That last part matters most. Active recall, answering a question from memory, beats re-reading for long-term retention in study after study. Flashcards and a quiz are the fastest way to get there.
